Club Training Model

The philosophy of the Fullerton Rangers Competitive Program is to provide our players with all the tools and resources needed to develop and succeed as soccer players at the highest club, ODP, University, and National Team level possible.  We believe that for this to be accomplished we must first develop our players.  The philosophy of the Fullerton Rangers Competitive Program is to provide our players with the technical, tactical, physical, and psychological tools necessary to succeed on the soccer field.  Our Club Wide Training Model is designed to address the age appropriate needs of our players as they grow and develop into soccer players and individuals.
The Club Wide training program not only addresses the developmental soccer issues that players encounter but also the personal issues that players face as they grow and become older. The Fullerton Rangers Club Wide Training Program was developed in accordance with standards set be the UNITED STATES SOCCER FEDERATION and its expectations of the development of the future soccer players in the United States.  For us, "Development" is not just a word but a standard that we have set for each age level.  We are here to provide the best opportunity and service possible to all of our players so that they continue to grow and accomplish all of their goals.

Club History

The Fullerton Rangers Soccer Club is the oldest Soccer Organization on Orange County and began in September 1963 when a group of men who wanted to play soccer, organized a team, and entered the Pacific Soccer League. The team selected the name “Fullerton Rangers” because several members of the team were Scottish and were devoted fans of the Rangers team from Glasgow, Scotland who played in the Scottish Premier League. Their home field was at Chapman Park. In 1966, a youth team was added consisting of 8 to 14 year olds that played in the National Youth Soccer Association (NYSA) of Orange County. Our first youth team became the League Champions. A second youth team was added in 1967: Peewees (8 to 11 years old) and Intermediates (12 to 14 years old). On January 20, 1968 the Club was incorporated in the state of California as a non-profit organization. In 1970, the youth teams started playing in the Pacific Soccer League Youth Group. The Club continued operating with two youth teams until 1972. In the period from 1972 to 1974, a slow growth began such that in 1974, seven youth teams and two adult teams were playing soccer.

In 1975, the 10th season with youth teams, the Fullerton Rangers Youth Soccer Club (FRYSC) was formed as a division of the Fullerton Rangers Soccer Club (FRSC). The Youth Club was managed by 12 Board of Directors which were elected at the year-end parents’ meeting (Annual General Meeting). In this season, the club was comprised of 20 teams; nine in a newly created league within the city of Fullerton called the Fullerton Soccer League (FSL); and the remainder of the youth teams competed in the newly formed Coast Soccer League (CSL). The CSL had 60 teams from 15 cities and FRYSC was the largest club in the CSL. For the succeeding two years there was an explosion for the sport of soccer, both in the country and in the Club. The Club continued to grow steadily. In 1977, there were 90 teams with 1250 players. The Club’s growth was further aided by our affiliation with the Junior United Soccer Association (JUSA) of Placentia. Five Northern Orange County cities (Anaheim, Brea, Fullerton, Placentia and Yorba Linda) were represented within this Association. The Association included over 300 teams and over 4500 young soccer players. The FRYSC Board of Directors now consisted of 15 members whose duties were to set the policies of the Club, authorize all expenditures, and generally oversee the operations of the Club. In 1978, the Club joined the California Youth Soccer Association (CYSA). CYSA is the California branch of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF) which is the governing body of all soccer in the United States. FRYSC had 120 teams and 1700 players. In 1982, the Fullerton Rangers introduced our first girl’s CSL team. It was a team for girl’s under 16. Subsequently, more CSL girl’s teams were added. The FRYSC hosted the first Friendship Tournament on Labor Day weekend in 1983. Today, the Fullerton Rangers have many Boys and Girls teams in age groups U-9 through U-18 playing in the Coast Soccer League (CSL).
