The Fullerton Rangers U11 girls continued an incredible streak this weekend by winning a 3rd consecutive League Cup Championship. The girls fought through six matches, competing against more than 50 other teams in the tournament. The road this year was tougher than ever before, but the girls have once again proven themselves to be the best team in Coast Soccer League.
Every tournament has a story and this one was marked by quarterfinal and semifinal matches that were played in 40 mph winds. The conditions were very challenging. On top of that, the girls had to fight through an up-and-coming IE Surf team followed by an excellent BYSC team that had speed at every position. The team brought high intensity to these games and fought their way into the finals against So Cal Academy.
Conditions for the finals were much better and the teams produced an intense championship match. The Ranger's goal keeper made several phenomenal saves to keep the team in the game, and the defenders, midfielders and forwards brought their A games to the field. With only six minutes left, the Rangers finally broke through on a great free-kick from just outside the penalty arc. At that point the team worked hard to maintain possession of the ball and prevent any offensive opportunities for So Cal Academy. The strategy worked and the girls claimed the title with a close 1-0 victory in the finals.
This run to a 3rd championship was marked by solid play from every player over the course of the tournament. The girls trained hard for this accomplishment and they earned their trophies as a team. In each game different players stepped up with remarkable performances. These girls bring tremendous passion and style to the beautiful game of soccer. It’s hard to remember that they are only 10 and 11 year-olds!!
Congratulations girls! Your Rangers friends and family are very proud of you!!!
